FREE FORM GINGERBREAD COOKIES

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup plus 1 Tablespoon shortening                 

3/4 cup sugar

1 egg

1/4 cup molasses

2 1/3 cup flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon ginger

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

2. In a mixing bowl add shortening, sugar, eggs and molasses, cream together with a wooden spoon, until smooth. 

3. Combine all dry ingredients in another mixing bowl, making sure all ingredients are mixed. 

4. Add flour mixture, gradually to the creamed mixture, shape into a ball. 

5. Using a sheet of waxed paper, flatten portions of dough,using flat part of palm, and cut with cookie cutter or shape by hand. Decorate with 

    baking candy.

6. Bake 10 to 15 minutes.
